Rabbi Yosef Shalom Elyashiv was a famous decisior of Jewish Law and leader of the Lithuanian Jewish Community in the last generation. His rulings are studied and followed by many Lithuanian Haredi communities in Israel and the world. While his fame came as an expert in Jewish Law, he was known in smaller circles as a Kabbalist of great stature. He lived most of his life in the Meya Shaarim neighborhood in Jerusalem, devoting his entire days to Torah study and prayer.
